PLA & Environment ๐ŸŒ

Sustainability is close to my heart โ™ป๏ธ. Almost all of my models are printed from PLA (Polylactic Acid).

  • Renewable Resources ๐ŸŒฑ: PLA is derived from plant resources such as corn starch or sugarcane.
  • Biodegradable โ™ป๏ธ: Under industrial composting conditions, PLA is biodegradable.
  • Eco-conscious ๐Ÿƒ: Compared to conventional petroleum-based plastics, the production of PLA has a significantly lower carbon footprint.
  • Not UV-resistant โ˜€๏ธ: Therefore, it should not be used for permanent, direct sunlight. (Behind a window is fine, as the glass filters UV rays)

What is PLA Silk? โœจ

PLA Silk is a special variant of PLA that gains an extreme, silky shine through additives. It is excellent for decorative objects as it makes layers almost invisible, but is mechanically slightly less resilient (lower layer adhesion) than standard PLA.

What is PETG? ๐Ÿงช

PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is a versatile plastic that combines the positive properties of PLA and ABS.

  • Robust & Flexible: It is significantly more impact-resistant and tougher than PLA, meaning it breaks less easily. It is therefore used when it will be subjected to frequent mechanical stress. (e.g., a phone holder in a car)
  • Heat-resistant: PETG withstands temperatures up to approx. 75-80ยฐC and is therefore also suitable for use in cars (as long as you don't plan to park the car in the Sahara ๐Ÿ˜‰).
  • Recyclability: PETG is fully recyclable and belongs to the polyester group.
  • Not UV-resistant: Therefore, it should not be used for permanent, direct sunlight. (Behind a window is fine, as the glass filters UV rays)
  • Chemical Resistance: It is resistant to many chemicals and weathering.
